Vectorgraphs, Digigraphs & Kaleidoscopes
What are Vectorgraphs?
The Vectorgraphs (Vector Graphics) are vector-based fine art. There currently is no name for art made from vectors. Therefore, I invented the name "Vectorgraphs" to define this new art technique. The Vectorgraphs begin with a collaged composition of scanned hand drawn sketches, photographs and objects. With a digital pen and tablet and a vector editing software, the collage sketch is then translated into hundreds of hand-drawn vector shapes and countless layers.
Drawing with vectors is a bit like “connect-the-dots”. I define each shape by making points and curved lines then fill in these lines with color or gradients. See the example, of what my vector drawings look like with all of the connected dots and lines visible.
Above is an example of the hand-drawn skeleton or armature of connected lines & points that construct each object in the Vectorgraphs. The black and white images show what a Vectorgraph looks like without any color. The color images show the armature that is visible while making the Vectorgraph. These lines become invisible once the Vectorgraph is finished.
The meticulous armature of lines and points allow these vector shapes to be carefully adjusted to the color, shade and transparency of choice. With Vectors, the drawing process is revolutionary compared to traditional pencil and paper. The process of forming vector drawing lines is more like shaping a flexible wire. It is a virtual stained glass window that can be pulled, stretched, diffused, reshaped and re-colored. Although more time consuming than traditional drawing or painting, this method allows changes to be made cleanly, spontaneously and readily without having to start over. Vectors allow for the creation of smooth clean crisp edges and curves and bold color almost like cut paper but more sophisticated. Also vector-based art can be scaled to almost any size without degrading the image clarity.
The Vectorgraphs take the finished physical from of a Giclée Print and are not a "copy" or "reproduction" of an original painting or drawing etc. Each Vectorgraph is considered an "original print" similar to Fine Art traditional printmaking. I produce my own Vectorgraph Prints at the Morton Arts Studio on our Epson Professional printer on Fine Art Media such as Paper or Canvas. I have 14 years of experience working with Epson Professional Media.
What is a a Digigraph or Digigraphy?
There currently is no distinct name for digitally based Fine Art or Art made through the use of digital tools and software on a computer. Digigraphy or "Digigraphie" is one term referenced more frequently in Europe to define high quality digitally based fine art prints created with an Epson printer and Giclée Printmaking.
My Digigraph technique begins with making a collage of digital photographs and scanned objects, through the use of tools such as a digital pen and tablet and image editing software. Once satisfied with placement and composition of these images the colors are transformed into a deliberately dynamic palette. The contours shadows and texture are also changed to suit the overall composition; making some images come forward and others recede. Transparent colors, and layers are added to create visual luminosity and depth. Lastly, hand-directed digital painting is added. The Digigraphs take the finished physical from of a Giclée Print and are not a "copy" or "reproduction" of an original painting or drawing etc. Each Digigraph is considered an "original print" similar to Fine Art traditional printmaking. I produce my own Digigraphy Prints at the Morton Arts Studio on our Epson Professional printer on Fine Art Media such as Paper or Canvas. I have 14 years of experience working with Epson Professional Media.
What are Kaleidoscopes?
The Kaleidoscopes are a meditative fusion of colorful plants, animals and objects in a semi-symmetrical weightless space. The Kaleidoscopes are made using the Digigraph technique described above.

Giclée Prints on Fine Art Paper
A Fine Art Paper Giclée print is a museum quality digital print produced on a smooth or textured fine art paper. We select smooth or textured paper depending upon how it suits a particular image. Our selection of fine art papers are 100 percent cotton mould-made with a special coating for pigmented inks. These papers are also acid, lignin and chlorine free.
Fine Art Paper Prints must be framed and displayed under glass or Plexiglas. We recommend an acid-free mat over the print to prevent the print from coming in direct contact with the glass or Plexiglas.
Giclée Prints on Canvas
A Canvas Giclée print is a museum quality digital replica of the original painting - printed on real canvas. Our canvas selection is made from a durable acid free blend of 65% Polyester and 35% Cotton. This unique heavyweight, quality canvas utilizes a tight weave and displays a subtle texture for incredible color. If you wish to have a print with the luminosity of the paintings, we recommend the canvas prints.
Canvas prints do not need to be placed under glass. These prints have a protective UV coating. This advanced acrylic polymer coating protects the print from moisture, light, humidity and atmospheric contaminants.
The prints will be stretched on standard stretcher bars (3/4" inches deep) with gallery wrap, image wrapped edges (white edge if specified) The print would then be ready to hang no framing necessary.
"Image wrap" means that the image wraps around the edges of the stretcher so it will not need a frame. The original picture is not cropped or compromised in any way. The wrap is simply extra picture or a mirrored edge (derived from the original painting) that is added on to seamlessly wrap around the sides.
Heavy Duty Stretcher Bars are also an option they are 1 and 1/2" inches deep. Please contact Morton Arts for more information.
