Framing Guide | Canvas & Fine Art Paper Prints

Choosing a frame is a personal decision and often depends on your interior, budget, and the look you want for the artwork. Many customers choose to display our stretched canvas prints exactly as they arrive — ready to hang with image-wrapped edges that create a clean, gallery-style presentation without the need for additional framing.

In fact, several customers have told us that after seeing the finished canvas print in person, they felt that “no frame was needed.”

However, framing can certainly enhance a piece depending on your interior style and preferences.

Canvas Prints (Ready to Hang)

Our canvas prints are professionally stretched over solid wood stretcher bars and arrive ready to display right out of the box.

Do Canvas Prints Need a Frame?

No — framing is completely optional.

The image wraps around the sides of the canvas, creating a finished appearance that works beautifully without a traditional frame. This modern gallery-wrap presentation is one of the reasons canvas prints are so popular.

Recommended Frame Style for Canvas Prints

If you would like to frame your stretched canvas print, we generally recommend a simple “floating frame” (also called a floater frame).

A floating frame surrounds the canvas while leaving a small gap between the artwork and the frame edge, creating a clean contemporary look without covering the image.

For common canvas sizes such as 16x20, 18x24, 24x36, etc., ready-made floating frames are sometimes available online through retailers such as:

Custom framing is also an option if you are trying to match existing furniture, trim, or interior colors.

Glass Is Not Necessary for Canvas Prints

Each canvas print includes a protective UV coating that helps protect the artwork from:

  • Moisture
  • Humidity
  • Atmospheric contaminants
  • UV/light exposure

The coated surface may also be gently cleaned with a soft microfiber cloth lightly dampened with water.

Framing Fine Art Paper Prints

Our fine art paper prints ship rolled in a protective tube and will require framing before display.

Customers generally have two options:

Option 1 — Ready-Made Frames

If your print is a standard size, you may be able to find an affordable ready-made frame online or at a local craft or home décor store.

You may also wish to add a mat board around the artwork for a more finished gallery presentation.

Some popular online framing resources include:

Option 2 — Custom Framing

For the best fit and presentation, many customers choose to bring their print to a professional local framer.

A custom framer can help with:

  • Mat color selection
  • Frame style selection
  • UV protective glass or acrylic
  • Sizing and spacing
  • Matching existing décor

This option is especially helpful for larger prints or non-standard sizes.

Important Recommendations for Fine Art Paper Prints

To help preserve your print over time, we recommend the following archival framing practices:

  • Use acid-free mat boards and mounting materials
  • Prevent the artwork from directly touching the glass or acrylic
  • Use archival or reversible mounting methods whenever possible
  • Hinge mounting is generally preferred
  • Avoid permanent “dry mounting” methods

Permanent mounting adhesives may discolor or damage fine art prints over time and can make future conservation impossible.

Our General Recommendation

If you prefer a clean, modern presentation with minimal effort, our stretched canvas prints are usually the easiest option because they arrive ready to hang and often look complete without a frame.

If you enjoy selecting mats and frames or want a more traditional presentation, fine art paper prints offer greater flexibility for custom framing and interior design coordination.

Either way, framing is ultimately a matter of personal taste — the most important thing is choosing a presentation that you enjoy in your home or workspace.
