Canvas Prints
We use a heavyweight, acid-free canvas made from a durable 65% polyester / 35% cotton blend. Its tight weave and subtle texture bring out rich, vibrant color with remarkable clarity. Our hand-stretched canvas prints offer a timeless and elegant way to display artwork. Each one is made with care at our Morton Arts studio in Massachusetts using archival-quality materials designed to last for generations.
Key Features:
-
Archival-Grade Canvas: We use museum-quality, heavyweight, acid-free canvas made from a durable 65% polyester / 35% cotton blend. Its tight weave and subtle texture bring out rich, vibrant color with remarkable clarity and long-term fade resistance.
-
Protective Coating: Every print is sealed with a UV-protective water-based satin coating, tested by Wilhelm Research and proven to extend image life. This advanced polymer coating protects your print from moisture, light, humidity, and atmospheric contaminants. You can gently clean it with a damp microfiber cloth.
-
Professional Inks: Printed with EPSON UltraChrome archival pigmented inks for superior color depth, water resistance, and smudge-proof durability.
-
Gallery-Wrapped & Ready to Hang: Canvas prints are stretched on ¾" deep standard stretcher bars with image-wrapped edges. No frame or glass needed. Prints 30" or taller are stretched on heavy-duty 1½" bars.
-
Hand-Signed by the Artist: Every canvas print is hand-signed, titled, and produced in our Massachusetts studio by the artist.
What is Image Wrap?
“Image wrap” means the image continues around the sides of the canvas. This is achieved using mirrored or extended edges from the original artwork—so the main image is never cropped. The result is a polished, frameless presentation that suits any space.
Watercolor Paper Prints
Our watercolor paper prints are museum-quality fine art reproductions made with care in our Massachusetts studio. Printed on luxurious, archival cotton paper and hand-signed by the artist, each print is designed to preserve the color, texture, and detail of the original painting for years to come.
Key Features:
-
Archival Fine Art Paper:
We use 100% cotton mould-made watercolor papers that are acid-free, lignin-free, and chlorine-free for exceptional longevity.
-
Premium Weight & Texture:
Papers are carefully selected—smooth or textured depending on the image—and range from 285gsm to 315gsm for a substantial, luxurious feel.
-
Color-Proofed & Professionally Printed:
Each print is color-proofed and produced using a wide-format EPSON printer with UltraChrome archival pigmented inks, offering vibrant color and superior resistance to fading, water, and smudging.
-
Hand-Signed Limited Editions:
Every print is hand-signed and titled by the artist. All prints are part of a limited edition series, making them a meaningful and collectible piece.
-
Ready for Framing:
Prints include a 2-inch white border around the image to accommodate matting and framing. We recommend framing under glass or Plexiglas with an acid-free mat to preserve the artwork.
-
Shipping & Care:
Each print is shipped rolled in a protective tube with a 3-day processing time and free 2–3 day shipping. Care instructions are included with every order.
Original Acrylic Paintings
All paintings are original, one-of-a-kind works created on stretched, gallery-wrapped canvas or linen. Each piece is crafted with lasting materials and professional care, ensuring beauty and durability for years to come.
The original acrylic paintings are stretched and "Gallery Wrapped" with staples on backside. The Canvases or Linens are primed and sealed with a special acrylic Gesso formulation on both sides. All wood stretchers are primed and sealed in the same manner with very strong cross-braces. The colors in the paintings are permanent and Guaranteed "light-fast" and will never crack.
All paintings are easily cleaned and are provided with instructions for care and maintenance. Every Painting is ready to hang.
James Morton has had the rare opportunity to view paintings he created over 50 years ago in private collections. When properly cared for, the acrylic paintings still look as vibrant and pristine as the day they were painted.
Private commissions are available upon request with negotiable terms, and inquiries are always welcome.
Original Digital Woodcut Prints
In making these digital woodcuts, I first compose a specially prepared collage of my own digital photographs. Once satisfied with the composition of these photos, it is introduced to the woodcut imaging software.
It is within this software that the image may take any form chosen. It is possible to generate coarse or refined woodcut lines or shapes to define image forms. It is, in truth, a digital carving! As with any other media, it depends upon the skill and invention of the artist.
The next step is the choosing of the color palette. This can be as broad or as limited as chosen.
Texture, transparent colors, layering etc. can also be implemented. I can work with the actual colors within the photo or derive any palette of my choosing. Although this new media can be time consuming it is spontaneous as well.
When satisfied with the piece as viewed on screen, the Giclée printing process can begin. All of the prints are made in the studio on my own wide-format printer where I have complete control over the color proofing and final results. In this way, all digital woodcuts are original works of art from start to finish. This new printing process yields extremely high definition prints, which were not previously possible using traditional mediums.
I have used the traditional process of woodcut printing in the past but was never entirely satisfied with its physical limitations and always yearned for the woodcut medium to have that same immediacy that is inherent in the acrylic paintings that I have made over the past thirty-six years. The new digital media has made what was formerly impossible possible.
Digital Woodcuts take the finished physical from of a high resolution Giclée Print and are not a "copy" or "reproduction" of an original painting or drawing etc. Each Digital Woodcut is considered an "original print" similar to Fine Art traditional printmaking.
Currently, I am making Original Digital Woodcut Prints up to 44 inches in height and at almost any length using Fine Art Watercolor Papers and Canvas.
Original Digigraph Prints
James Morton’s Digigraphs are original artworks created using a hybrid process that blends photography, digital painting, and fine art printing. Each piece is built in layers—reimagining real places with expressive color and texture—then printed using archival pigments for lasting beauty. These are not reproductions, but original digital works printed in limited quantities and signed by the artist.
Artists Description:
The Original Digigraph Prints are a combination of numerous digital media. I do not use any “apps” to make these works . These are a result of techniques I have been developing over the past 20 years.
The Digigraph technique begins with making a specially prepared collage of my own digital photographs. Once satisfied with the composition of these photos, the image and color is digitally transformed. The contours shadows and texture are also changed to suit the overall composition; making some images come forward and others recede. Transparent colors and layers are added to create visual luminosity and depth. Lastly, hand-directed digital painting is added.
There is currently no distinct name for digitally based Fine Art or Art made through the use of digital tools and software on a computer. The name Digigraphy or "Digigraphie" is one term referenced more frequently in Europe to define high quality digitally based fine art prints created with an Epson printer and Giclée Printmaking.
My Digigraphs take the finished physical from of a high resolution Giclée Print and are not a "copy" or "reproduction" of an original painting or
drawing etc. Each Digigraph is considered an "original print" similar to Fine Art traditional printmaking.
Currently, I am making Original Digigraph Prints up to 44 inches in height and at almost any length using Fine Art Watercolor Papers and Canvas.
